November 7 marked the official opening of the Haven student housing project, developed by Vestide/Woonbedrijf. This new complex on the TU/e campus consists of 735 student homes. Besides building student housing, a community of students has also been built here. In this way, Vestide is making an important contribution to the well-being of students.
Contribution to the development of the Brainport region
At the grand opening, Roy Beijnsberger, general manager/director of Woonbedrijf, emphasized the importance of this project. “This project is a very nice win-win. Developing much-needed housing for students while at the same time focusing on student well-being within a community. In Haven, students support each other with challenges they encounter in their student life. With the opening of Haven, we are also contributing to the development of the Brainport region by making it possible to attract and retain talent with these 735 student homes.”
Meeting in community is central
In both the high-rise and low-rise buildings, there are several meeting places for students. This supports the vibrant community where living, studying and recreation come together. There are dozens of communal spaces, each with its own theme, designed together with the students. Throughout the design process and construction, students were involved and provided input. This responded to an important theme: the social well-being of students and the prevention of loneliness.
About the Haven plan
The Haven plan consists of two residential towers and a student village (low-rise). Castor is the name of the tower on the west side with 278 student housing units. The eastern tower -Pollux- consists of 371 student housing units. Both towers are about 50 meters high (16 storeys). Between the two towers is the “student village” Terra with 86 student rooms divided into 5 streets with 2 floors, intended for group living. The first residents came to live here in August, and all units have been rented. Housing corporation Woonbedrijf owns the new student housing and rents it out under the name Vestide. The plan was designed by architectural firm VenhoevenCS and Heijmans is responsible for the realization of the homes.
